Volunteering

You can support Lads Need Dads in many ways and help us reach more boys and young men growing up without a consistent father figure.

In June 2020, Lads Need Dads was honoured to receive the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service — the equivalent of an MBE for voluntary organisations — recognising the outstanding commitment and contribution of our volunteers.

You do not need previous experience working with young people, or to be a father yourself, to volunteer with us. What matters most is an understanding of our mission and a genuine desire to make a positive difference in the lives of boys.

We welcome male volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences and skills. Our programmes benefit from men who can offer encouragement, consistency, life experience and positive role modelling.

All volunteers receive specialist training, guidance and ongoing support to help them feel confident and equipped in their role. Every member of our team is enhanced DBS checked and follows our safer recruitment and safeguarding procedures.

Through our work, we support boys to build confidence, strengthen emotional wellbeing, develop resilience and create positive relationships. We believe boys benefit from the consistent presence of good men who show up, listen and help them recognise their potential.

Through our work we increase boys confidence, self-esteem, resilience and more importantly, emotional intelligence and the ability to manage emotions. With input from our male mentors both boys and mums see the valuable role men play in the lives of boys. This has led to increased contact with fathers. Our work supports Dads and values their role. Ultimately, however, our work is focussed primarily on supporting, equipping and empowering boys.
